Orlando SilvaTreasurerMy name is Orlando Silva, and I am currently the Region II SGA Treasurer. I am majoring in mechanical engineering at Dallas College - Richland campus.
I consider myself to be a very active person because like sharks I feel that if I stop swimming I will just ball up and die. In my free time, I like to go for runs on morning days watching the sunrise, I enjoy reading deep topics like philosophy or fiction such as comics, and in terms of sports I enjoy playing basketball and training MMA. I am currently the region II rep for my local SGA, VP in PTK alpha alpha xi chapter, President in my local NSCS chapter, and I am a part of a variety of other organizations. In the past, I have won the youth poetry award for the Dallas public library, Student with vision Award at Richland college, placed 3rd recently in a timed 10k and my mom tells me I am the most handsome guy in the world. That last part might have been a lie. I was inspired to join Region II from the moment I heard about it. College to me isn’t as simple as take classes, get a letter grade, get a degree and automatically I am successful. No, instead I understand that college comes with the purpose of gaining leadership experience, knowing what it’s like to work with a team and pushing your limits. I saw region as that opportunity. |
As treasurer my role in region is to oversee the financial side of our organization. This includes, assessing and creating the region II budget, ensuring that all financial transactions are done so accordingly, and following up with income/expenses for the organization. Skills that I feel are beneficial to the positions include being detail oriented, pretty good at math and enthusiastic about making our region the best region.
For Region II overall, there are two things that I would like to focus on and that is strengthening our foundation and advocating growth. What I mean is this, covid-19 came around as pandemic and it damaged not only our physical population but our college’s culture as well. Many students came back the fall of 2021 unsure about what’s next and many experienced a lack of motivation. Region II in this sense can bring back that culture of unity within Dallas College and all the surrounding colleges. If we can make a series of events to promote a strong foundation and expand upon it, then we’ll be even better than before. It’s not just up to the officers, but everyone to accomplish this goal.
Feel free to contact me at any time. If you want to talk philosophy, nerd out about marvel or anime, or just want someone to talk to!
