RORY ETIENNE
Parliamentarian
Hello Region II! My name is Rory Etienne, and I am the Region II Parliamentarian. I represent the North Lake Campus, and it is my pleasure to serve on the Executive Board. My career path is Respiratory Care, and I plan to transfer to Austin College for a bachelor’s degree in Public Health.
Activities I am involved in are diverse and focus on civic engagement. I am the SGA President at the North Lake Campus. Serving at Irving’s City Hall, I am on the Advisory Committee on Disabilities. I serve as a Dallas County Election Judge and Volunteer Deputy Registrar for Dallas, Denton, and Collin Counties. I’m in Phi Theta Kappa, Psi Beta, and the National Society of Collegiate Scholars. What inspired me to become an officer for Region II was to better serve my community, develop stronger servant leadership skills. I want to give a voice to students with diverse disabilities and to show that it is possible to lead while having a difference that may prevent or inhibit you to complete tasks and goals. My mission is to inspire those who have challenges. |
My primary duty as a parliamentarian is to be a consultant to the Executive Board and Delegates on Robert’s Rules of Order to ensure that everyone understands the rules. Currently, I am studying for the Registered Parliamentarian and Certified Parliamentarian credentials. What I expect from this position is that we come together to continue the legacy of Region II by representing concerns fairly. What I hope to learn throughout my term and beyond is how to lead a multi-system organization such as TJCSGA Region II so I can mentor the next parliamentarian and continue the steady growth and improvement of the region.
I want to reflect on Henry Robert, the creator of Robert’s Rules. Robert says that “Where there is no law, but every man does what is right in his own eyes, there is the least of real liberty.” My call to action is for you to reach out to your communities to effect change and improve the laws that govern you to create a “real liberty” for the future.
If you want to connect, feel free to contact me.
